Lesson overview

This lesson opens Module 1, Understanding Entity-Based Search in the LLM Era. It is a short starting point whose main job is to give you the slide deck for the whole module, prepared by Beatrice Gamba, so you can follow along with the video lessons and keep the links to resources mentioned along the way. This summary explains what the module covers and how the introduction prepares you for it.

What this lesson covers

  • Where Module 1 sits in the course and what it sets out to explain
  • Access to the downloadable slides for every lesson in the module
  • An overview of the module’s journey from search history to practical entity work
  • The hands-on tools used in the module, including Google’s Knowledge Graph and Natural Language APIs
  • How the module prepares you for brand entity development in Module 2

Module 1 builds the conceptual foundation for the rest of the course. It begins by tracing how search moved from matching keywords to understanding entities and then to the conversational answers of LLMs. It explains what entities are, how they differ from keywords, and how Google’s Knowledge Graph underpins rich results, knowledge panels, AI Overviews and AI Mode. From there, the module becomes practical. You see how to interrogate Google’s Knowledge Graph to check whether a brand is recognised as an entity, and how entity analysis and salience scores reveal what a page actually communicates.

The later lessons turn that understanding into action. An entity audit toolkit combines two Google APIs into a process for analysing your own pages, benchmarking competitors and checking naming consistency. A lesson on correction strategies covers common entity gaps that prevent LLM citations and how to fix them. The module also looks at how entities flow through query fan-out, AI search systems and LLMs. It closes with a walk-through based on a fictional case study, showing how entity-focused content architecture and schema come together. The slides you download here act as a companion throughout. They can be printed or used on screen while you watch, and they hold the links to the resources referenced in each lesson. Downloading them is optional, but having them to hand makes it easier to revisit key ideas later.

This introduction is the first step of the core pathway, after the course overview and the optional entities primer. It is useful for every learner, whether you are new to entity SEO or want a structured refresher before moving on to modelling your own brand as an entity.
