Lesson overview

An entity audit is only useful if it leads to change. This lesson shows how to turn entity analysis into a practical plan for improving pages, filling content gaps and strengthening how your brand is associated with established entities. It explains how to read analysis results, which gaps most often stop LLMs from citing a site, and how to fix each one.

What this lesson covers

  • A four-part strategy: technical fixes, stronger core pages, new entity content and a focused content calendar
  • How to tell a successful entity analysis from a failed one
  • Keeping entity recognition strong over time
  • Five critical entity gaps that prevent LLM citations, with a correction for each
  • Entity co-occurrence and how to strengthen brand associations
  • Using structured data to declare relationships explicitly

The optimisation strategy starts with technical clean-up, such as separating navigation from content so search engines are not confused about what a page says. Core pages are then improved with structured data and internal links to central entity hubs, so every product mention points back to its definitive page. Missing entity content, such as detailed guides and resources, builds authority and captures long-tail searches. A content calendar based on competitor gaps, tracked monthly, keeps the work strategic and focused. The lesson contrasts a failed analysis, where the brand has low salience, the wrong type and no Knowledge Graph ID, with a successful one. The remedies are a prominent, disambiguated brand name and organisation schema with sameAs links. Maintaining that state means consistent naming, starting schema with core entities, monitoring salience monthly and watching trends instead of daily changes.

The five gaps are a missing primary entity, an ambiguous entity, no related entities, a mislabelled entity type and orphan entities without a dedicated hub. Fixes range from reworking the H1 and opening paragraph to adding clarifying context, corrected schema, content that covers missing topics and new hub pages. The lesson then introduces co-occurrence: when your brand appears alongside authoritative entities, the association between them can strengthen. The approach covers four areas. You identify existing associations, create content that discusses your brand naturally next to established entities, earn mentions in trusted external sources, and formalise relationships in schema with suitable properties.

This lesson is part of the first core module, Understanding Entity-Based Search in the LLM Era, and builds directly on the entity audit toolkit. It suits SEOs and content strategists who have audit data in hand and need clear correction strategies.
