Lesson overview

You cannot optimise entities you do not know exist. This lesson covers the Blueprint stage of the BRIDGE framework, where you build a full inventory of your brand’s entities and check how well they are already represented in structured data. It prevents you from building on incomplete foundations and shows where the biggest gaps are.

What this lesson covers

  • Six primary entity categories to inventory
  • Where to find entities: site crawls, social profiles, press, internal documents and knowledge bases
  • Running the same analysis on competitors and what it reveals
  • Validation tools and which pages to check
  • What to record for each entity type and its properties
  • The Schema Entity Audit Template for keeping the work organised

The inventory spans organisation, leadership, products and services, locations, events and concepts. The lesson recommends gathering entities from several sources so nothing important is missed: crawling key pages such as about, team and product pages, auditing company social profiles, scanning press coverage and industry publications, reviewing internal material such as marketing documents and tone of voice guidelines, and checking external knowledge bases including Wikipedia, Wikidata and DBpedia. Repeating the analysis for competitors shows what markup they use, how broad and deep their entity networks are, how their entities connect and how often language models cite them compared with you.

For the audit itself, the lesson uses Google’s Rich Results Test and the Schema.org validator on a representative set of pages, including the home page, about page, team pages and a handful of product and article pages. For each page you note the schema types detected, where markup is missing, any errors or warnings, missing required or recommended properties, whether IDs are used and whether schema is nested. Findings are then grouped by entity type. Organisation markup is checked for properties such as founder and address, leadership for Person markup connected to the organisation, products for brand, offers and ratings, content for Article and FAQ types, locations for Place and address, events for Event markup and concepts for Thing or DefinedTerm.

This lesson is the first practical stage of Module 2, Brand Entity Development and Recognition, and it links to a later walkthrough of the audit template. It helps SEOs and consultants who need a structured baseline of a brand’s entities before planning relationships and new markup.
